VIBRATION-SENSITIVE LED MODULESLED lights that are activated when a percussion instrument is struck. Modules created for bass drums, snare drums, quads, and xylophones. In collaboration with Tri-City Band Corps, a non-profit marching band based in Fremont, CA.
Contains footage of the design & prototyping process, as well as final assembly and installation. Thank you to Troop 582 and all the generous volunteers who came together to make this project happen!
Adafruit Gemma M0
Extremely small microcontroller, Native compatibility with Arduino, digital/analog input/output, USB port
Piezoelectric Sensor
Inexpensive, disk generates voltage when deformed (such as when a vibration/knock occurs)
Adafruit NeoPixels
Waterproof, individually addressable LEDs that are can be powered/driven by Gemma M0
General schematic of the circuit and what soldering is needed, as well as explanations of each part and its function for volunteer understanding. Since I was working with volunteers that had little to no electronics experience, it was more productive to include images and diagrams of each part instead of utilizing standard circuit notation. This was also designed to minimize soldering (hence the use of the JST 3-Pin Connector)
