About

Laura, 19, is a current junior at Stanford University, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Computer Science.
Laura is fascinated with the interdisciplinary and creative nature of engineering and product design. Initially apprehensive of pursuing a career in engineering for fear of being unable to pursue creative outlets, she has since discovered that creative problem solving and teamwork are key to the world of engineering.
Now, she strives to incorporate design skills into her studies of mechatronics and product realization, hoping to engineer solutions that break barriers and make the world a better place.
Laura fell in love with engineering while working on her Eagle Project with Tri-City Band Corps, a non-profit marching band based in Fremont, CA. Tasked with designing vibration-sensitive LED modules for use in parades over the course of 2 months, she absolutely loved the iteration and design process. Due to COVID-19, she relied on volunteers from her troop for the entire assembly process and had a blast teaching young women about electronics.
Being one of the first female Eagle Scouts in history continues to be one of Laura's proudest achievements. In February 2019, Laura founded the largest female Scouts BSA (formerly the Boy Scouts) Troop west of the Mississippi River. Based in Saratoga, CA, Troop 582 continues to teach outdoor skills, conservation, and leadership to over 75 young women today.
One of Laura's goals is to create a more inclusive environment for young women. She has been invited to speak at numerous events, including a 2019 fundraising event that raised over $400k for Scouting. She has also presented alongside Randall L. Stephenson (former CEO of AT&T) and retired Gen. Jim Mattis, as well as at the stadium of the San Francisco 49ers. In 2020, she was one of the first women selected to represent over 2 million Scouts to Congress and the President.
In her free time, Laura loves camping, hiking, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, and generally everything to do with the outdoors. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Laura stumbled upon photography and videography, and started teaching herself the basics.
She now produces videos documenting events and has worked with several organizations within Scouting to improve marketing. She also shoots portraits for students and student organizations. In addition, she is an avid conservation photographer and loves taking her camera on a trip or hike.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Laura sings with the Stanford University Singers and plays with Cardinal Calypso, Stanford's premier steelpan ensemble. She also currently serves as the Equipment Director for Stanford's collegiate archery team.
Laura also loves travelling. She speaks Mandarin, French, and is currently learning American Sign Language. When not working, you can find her painting or reading to unwind and relax.
